Principal's Corner

Principal Barbara Pixton

Greetings Eagle Families,

As the Principal of Mullenix Ridge Elementary School, it is my honor to welcome you to the 2019-2020 school year.  The entire staff has worked very hard preparing for this school year and we all look forward to working in partnership with you in making this year successful for all our children.  We had quite a jump in our kindergarten numbers so we added another class with a wonderful new teacher. We welcome you all!

I truly appreciate everything you have done to keep learning going over the summer. I have heard many stories about special trips that were both relaxing and educational. I encourage you to keep your ears open. When you go places, point out words that people use. Try to have your child figure out what the word means. This will help to expand their vocabulary. Use more than just nouns and explain what adjectives do for our language. Reach out to your child’s teacher if you need any hints. Our teachers love open, two-way communication and all of them use Class Dojo. We value you as partners in educating children and honor you as their first teacher!

Welcome to our new families, staff and community members.  Feel free to visit our school and experience the pride, the professionalism, and the culture that make Mullenix Ridge a wonderful place to learn and grow!  We love our volunteers so consider coming in and completing a volunteer packet. Whenever you enter the building you must first come into the office.

The district has purchased a new ELA curriculum for all elementary schools that will stretch learning in reading and writing and art. Students will be engaged with actual literature and create story maps, T-Charts, sketches and more. They will participate in jigsaw small groups, mix and mingle, partner reading, quick writes, readers theater, tableau, Socratic seminars and more. We are very excited about this new curriculum and know that students will be too. Try to read something to your child every day. Take turns choosing books and read with expression. Try a squeaky voice or a deep voice. You don’t have to be an expert reader – your child will love it when you read because it’s you!

I value your thoughts, insights, and encouragement throughout the year to improve our school. Remember, we are all “Eagles Flying High!”

Warmest regards,

Barbara Pixton
